Peter, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus wrote this letter. He wrote the letter in the Greek language about 30 years after Jesus had returned to heaven.

A man called Silas (sometimes the Bible calls him Silvanus) helped Peter to write the letter (see 1 Peter 5:12). In those days, some men were expert writers. They helped people to write their letters properly.

Verse 1 of today’s text is the continuation of the last verse of chapter 1. A person who loves other people will want to help them and say good things about them. The words that people use show what their spirit is like. Peter lists 5 evil things that Christians should remove from their lives; wickedness, deceit, hypocrisies, jealousy and slander.
