Sabbath for people

The 4th of the 10 commandments requires that people must rest on the Sabbath day. (Deuteronomy 5:12-15).

In the fourth commandment, God showed that people could combine an attitude of reverence towards Him with an attitude of care for their own needs and those of other fellow human beings. The weekly Sabbath encouraged people to worship God since the day was set apart for Him as holy, but at the same time, it benefited them by making sure they had adequate rest from their regular work. The Sabbath was intended to give rest to all slaves from overworking themselves.

Fast gone wrong?

King Saul waged war against the Philistines who had so much brag and power for a long time when he heard that the was confusion in the Philistine camp. Saul was so eager to seize the opportunity to attack the enemy that he did not wait to receive God’s directions through the priest. Israelites who had earlier deserted to the Philistines or hidden themselves in fear suddenly returned to Saul’s side and joined in the battle.

Jonathan and Michal to the Rescue of David

For a while, Jonathan was successful in persuading his father to stop trying to kill David.

In the past, Saul tried to kill David in a secret way. Saul hated David so much that he even told his son Jonathan and his officials to kill him. Jonathan told David to hide from Saul. Jonathan spoke to his father Saul and tried to stop him. Jonathan was more loyal to David than to his father. He reminded his father about the great things that David had done; striking down Goliath
