Do Not Worry

  • Rev. Bright Mawuena Nfodzo
Date preached March 21, 2022

25 “That’s why I’m telling you to stop worrying about your life—what you will eat or what you will drink—or about your body—what you will wear. Life is more than food, isn’t it, and the body more than clothing?

26 Look at the birds in the sky. They don’t plant or harvest or gather food into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. You are more valuable than they are, aren’t you?

27 Can any of you add a single hour to the length of your life by worrying?

28 And why do you worry about clothes? Consider the lilies in the field and how they grow. They don’t work or spin yarn,

29 but I tell you that not even Solomon in all of his splendor was clothed like one of them.

30 Now if that is the way God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and thrown into an oven tomorrow, won’t he clothe you much better—you who have little faith?

31 “So don’t ever worry by saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’

32 because it is the unbelievers who are eager for all those things. Surely your heavenly Father knows that you need all of them!

33 But first be concerned about God’s kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things will be provided for you as well.

34 So never worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

People get into trouble and become slaves to material things because of greed and the desire to get rich quickly. But according to the scripture for today, others get into bondage to material things not because they are greedy, but because they worry too much about having enough money to look after themselves. They should realize that if God gives life, He can also give what is necessary to maintain life (Matt 6:25-27).

If He cares for lesser things such as birds, flowers, and grass, He can certainly care for His people. It’s true the world has imposed many challenges on its dwellers, and many people have dependants and responsibilities. Poor governance has worsened the plights of many, especially the poor. But believers should not be anxious concerning their material needs.

Those who do not know God might be anxious, but believers should trust in God and put the interests of His kingdom first. They are under His rule and they should trust that as day-to-day difficulties arise, He will provide the answer.

Meeting our health needs, accommodation, school fees, food, clothing, and shelter which are basic needs have become scarce due to lack of funds. You are thinking your head off.

Take each day at a time. There’s no need to compare yourself with anyone. Life is equally not a race. God assures you of His daily provisions.

🔷 Keep working hard, and trusting only God to provide the things you need

🔷 Never be anxious for anything. Hunger, nakedness, thirst, etc, if they come are temporal.

💥 Thank God for a new week
💥 Ask God to provide your daily needs

God assures us that since He created us, He has budgeted for our stay here. Just trust that and never worry about anything in this life. Leave it to God.
