Don’t Be Anxious

  • Rev. Bright Mawuena Nfodzo
Date preached March 25, 2022

6 Never worry about anything. Instead, in every situation let your petitions be made known to God through prayers and requests, with thanksgiving.

7 Then God’s peace, which goes far beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your hearts and minds in union with the Messiah Jesus.

Paul exhorts us never to worry in any situation. Every situation used in verse 6 is in reference to the supply of your wants, and the wants of your families; everything in respect to afflictions, embarrassments, and trials; and everything relating to your spiritual condition. There is nothing that pertains to body, mind, estate, friends, conflicts, losses, trials, hopes, fears, in reference to which we may not go and spread it all out before the Lord. Tell it to God.

Instead of anxiety, we should put our requests to God through prayers. We can always find something to be thankful for, no matter what may be the burden of our wants or the special subject of our petitions. When we pray for the supply of our wants, we may be thankful for that kind providence that has hitherto befriended us.

When we pray for restoration from sickness, we may be thankful for the health we have hitherto enjoyed, for God’s merciful interposition in the former days of trial, and for His goodness in now sparing our lives.

When we pray that our children and friends may be preserved from danger and death, we may remember how often God has interposed to save them; when oppressed with a sense of sin, we pray for pardon, we have the abundant cause of thanksgiving that there is a glorious way by which we may be saved. Thanksgiving must precede your supplications and petitions.

To make our requests known to God is not as if we are to give Him information, but to express to Him your wants. God needs not to be informed of our necessities, but He requires that we come and express them to Him.

🔷 There is no need to be worried over any condition we find ourselves in

🔷 There must always be a reason to thank God despite our situations

🔷 We must resort to prayer and tell God what He already knows, and demand answers from Him

💥 Thank God for your life and all He does for you
💥 Pray for the spirit of patience to submit to God even in distress
💥 Commit your anxieties to God

God has given us the Son Jesus Christ who speaks and intercedes for us all the time. We must fix our eyes on Him and put our cares before Him in all our situations. Don’t you think despite all, you have countless reasons to thank God?
