Greatness, Power, Glory, Victory and Majesty to the Lord

  • Rev. Bright Mawuena Nfodzo
Date preached March 23, 2023

SCRIPTURE 📖
10 Therefore David praised Jehovah before all the assembly. And David said, You are blessed, O Jehovah, the God of Israel our father, everlasting and everlasting.

11 Yours, O Jehovah, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Jehovah and you are exalted as head above all.

12 Both riches and honor come of you and you rule over all. And in your hand is power and might. And in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

13 Now therefore, our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name.

BACKGROUND
The text for today is part of a prayer David offered when the people had willingly given to support the building of the temple. It was David’s outburst of magnificent praise to God for the joyful response from the people in contributing towards the building.

David had presented Solomon to the people as the one who, by God’s choice, would succeed him as king and build the temple (1 Chr. 28:1-10). David gave Solomon the plans he had prepared for the temple and its service and encouraged him to persist in the work till the temple was finished and in use, according to the plans he had set out.

In addition to the money and materials David had already given for the project (1 Chr 22:14), David gave a lavish offering from his own personal funds. His example prompted the people to make similarly generous offerings before David offered the prayer of the text.

It was this response of cheerful giving that brought about today’s text, that David burst into praise and acknowledged that all riches and honour come from God.

This prayer of David is so beautiful. This is because the prayer turns attention away from David, Solomon, and the temple and gives thanks to God.

David gladly acknowledged that everything that people possess comes from God (verse 12).

LESSONS✍🏽
🔷 The Lord deserves all honour at all times. We should always praise Him.

🔷 The Lord owns everything in heaven and on earth and even everything that we possess

🔷 We must give cheerfully, without any coercion to support the work of God

PRAYER POINTS🙏🏽
💥 Thank and praise God
💥 Pray to be able to cheerfully support God’s work

CONCLUSION📙
Since all glory and power belong to God Almighty all the time, we must also honour Him as such with our thanks and praise and even with all we have since they all come from Him.
AMEN
