Plants for Health

  • Rev. Bright Mawuena Nfodzo
Date preached November 21, 2022

29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree upon which is the fruit of a tree bearing seed—to you they shall be for food.

30 And to every animal of the earth and to every fowl of heaven and to all the living creatures that crawl upon the earth, every green plant is given for food.” And it was so.

31 And God saw everything that He had made, and indeed, it was exceedingly good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

God orderly created everything in this world, but particular with the welfare of human beings He created in His image in mind. Hunger brews anger and trouble. The reason why people are working all day and night is because they want their daily bread.

God originally gave us our natural food in fruits and vegetables to satisfy the hunger of human beings.

From the foregoing, some philosophers argued that human being was originally intended to live upon vegetables only; and as no change was made In the structure of men’s bodies after the flood, it is not probable that any change was made in the articles of their food. It may also be inferred from this passage that no animal whatever was originally designed to prey on others; for nothing is here said to be given to any beast of the earth besides green herbs.

Later, Abel (Adam’s son) looked after animals (Genesis 4:2). God did not tell people to kill animals for food until Genesis 9:2-3.

God gave the command that people should have families. He made plants and trees that have seeds so more plants and trees would grow for food. They would produce food for people and animals.

The land also experienced this development of animal life, till it too became full of all kinds of creatures. Finally came the first human couple, who together represented the peak of God’s creation. Like the other animals, they were so made that they could feed themselves from what grew on the earth and reproduce their own kind. But they were different from all other animals and were given power over them; for they alone, of all God’s creatures, were made in God’s image.

Green is a sign of growth. So God grows us physically and spiritually with the food He gives us. We need to serve Him faithfully because it is at His table we are fed. It will therefore be a great sign of ungratefulness when we do not serve God. Or we deserve famine. All the provisions that God allows human beings for food are drawn out of the earth. The homeliness of the provision on which God intended man to feed.

All which God has made is exceedingly good, as He is, and, therefore, if anything in the world seems to be bad, then it’s either we do not understand why God created the thing or God did not create the thing. For everything that God created, though it seems bad so to us, God will bring good out of it in His own good time. If the thing is really bad, then God did not make it. It must be a disease, a mistake, a failure of man’s malting, or of some person’s making, but not of God’s making. For all that He has made He sees eternally, and, behold, it is very good.

It is somewhat remarkable that through the whole of Genesis 1, whenever the division of days is made, the evening always precedes the morning (see verse 31). The reason of this may perhaps be, that darkness existed before light, (Gen 1:2) and therefore time is reckoned from the first act of God towards the creation of the world, which took place before light was called forth into existence.

Some human activities destroy the green and natural vegetation God has given us. When God’s green vegetation is destroyed, perpetual growth is shortchanged. Illegal small scale mining, popularly called galamsey in Ghana, bush burning and deforestation only satisfy our immediate needs. They end up destroying the ozone layer and changing atmospheric conditions. These can cause famine and lost of human lives.

🔷 God does not give us all our provisions at once, but He supplies it daily

🔷 We are expected to take care of the environment and keep it green as God gave it to us

🔷 Eating junk food wastes money and cuts one’s life short. Fruits and vegetables must be part of our meals.

💥 Pray that we shall be able to keep the environment safe for the younger generation
💥 Pray for all those on the streets due to hunger

Let’s all go green and do everything good as God expects it. Our food, our environment should be green so we can prevent sicknesses and diseases. We must also protect the natural environment from destruction.
