Praise God in His Sanctuary

  • Rev. Bright Mawuena Nfodzo
Date preached April 23, 2022

1 Hallelujah! Praise God in his Holy Place. Praise him in his great expanse.

2 Praise him for his mighty works. Praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3 Praise him with trumpet sounding. Praise him with stringed instrument and harp.

4 Praise him with tambourine and dancing. Praise him with stringed and wind instruments.

5 Praise him with loud cymbals. Praise him with reverberating cymbals.

6 Let everyone who breathes praise the LORD. Hallelujah!

The word ‘hallelu’ in Hebrew is in every verse of this psalm in the Hebrew Bible. It is often usually translated as “*praise”, or “tell someone that they are great”.

Nobody is better than God. LORD is another name for God. It is His covenant name. Here, God agreed to love and send help to His people.

We must use musical instruments to make music to praise the Lord. There were three groups of instruments:

/ the ones that you hit; examples are drums and cymbals.

/ the ones that you blew into; examples are horns and pipes.

/ the ones that had strings; examples are harps and guitars.

Today, there are other musical instruments that even use electricity, such as the electric guitar. Strings now include the violin and the cello. We should use these new instruments to praise the LORD, as well as the old ones!

In Exodus 15:1, Moses and all the people sang to the LORD after God led them out of Egypt. In Judges 5:1-2, Deborah and Barak sang when God beat their enemies. These enemies were the Canaanites.

It’s said in Hebrews 2:12, “In the Church, I will sing praise”. Paul told us, “Make music in your heart to the Lord. Sing psalms and hymns and songs about God” (Ephesians 5:19).

In Revelation, John saw a picture of heaven, where God lives. John tells us that “they sang a new song” (Revelation 5:9). One day we will sing that song in heaven if we believe in Jesus Christ … Hallelujah!

🔷 We must praise God for His love and mercies and the life He has given us

🔷 Those with music skills and talents at instruments must use them to praise God

🔷 Music in the church must not be haphazard but skillful and melodious in order to bring honor to God

💥 Thank God and praise Him for your life
💥Pray for instrumentalists and choristers

We must be glad and thankful to God that we have tongues and voices. We must not cease praising God, as far as we have life. The ability to sing and play instruments is a privilege. We must not take it for granted, but use it to honor God.
