Work hard

  • Rev. Bright Mawuena Nfodzo
Date preached August 16, 2023

30 I went by the field belonging to a lazy man, by a vineyard belonging to a senseless person.

31 There it was, overgrown with thistles, the ground covered with thorns, its stone wall collapsed.

32 As I observed, I thought about it; I watched, and learned a lesson:

33 “A little sleep! A little slumber! A little folding of my hands to rest!”

34 Then your poverty will come upon you like a robber, your need like an armed bandit.

There ought to be crops in this field by all means at certain times of the season. But the lazy man did not sow any seed. How do you reap if nothing is sown?

There ought to be food in the garden. But the lazy man did not look after the food plants. Probably he spent the whole period praying, instead of balancing it with work. These two must work together.

Now the garden is wild. Now there are only weeds. The lazy man had no food. So perhaps the lazy man starved.

So the writer learned a lesson. He learned that he must work hard. Rest is good. And sleep is good. But if we are lazy, then we shall suffer.

If people sleep when they should be working, they demonstrate their stupidity and laziness. They will surely end in poverty and disgrace.

🔷 We must balance the time to work and the time to pray and worship so that none lags behind

🔷 Hard work is a required Christian virtue for all believers

💥 Ask God to bless your handiworks
💥 Pray for the jobless

When you sleep unnecessarily or are lazy about always depending on others to fend for you, you might be disappointed soon. You must rise up and do something. Begin small, and pray along and God will change the story.
